DATE: MARCH 21, 2014

BOARDWALK OPENS 5:30 PM

CONCERT STARTS 7:00 PM

At the event, members of the Massapequa High School Music Department will perform feel-good songs to an audience of fellow students, parents, and members of the Massapequa Community. Spectators can bring beach blankets to the gymnasium, all to further support the "beach" theme.

And what's a beach without a boardwalk? Our boardwalk will consist of different tables run by Massapequa High School Clubs. These clubs will sell either food or beach-themed items (like sunglasses) to attendees along our main hallway; half their profits will be donated to Winthrop, and half will be kept for the respective club’s treasury.

Admission to this event is where MHS English and art classes are involved. Art classes created small landscape portraits of serene happy scenes. These pictures were then forwarded to English classes, which wrote poems based on these portraits. The best of these poem/picture combinations were narrowed down to six, and these six were made into  postcards (art on one side, poetry on the back), which will be sold to students as admission to the event. Students will choose the postcard they like best, pay $2 for it to be sent to a Winthrop Child Life Center patient, then receive a ticket to "Catch a Wave for Winthrop". Other deserving poem/picture combinations will be used to decorate the boardwalk and gym on the night of the charity event.

We truly hope this will be a highly successful event, and that you will choose to join us!
